Front cover and contents page completed!!!!

Ok so, ive completed both my front cover and contents page and in my opinion neither of them are half bad, anyways now ive got these out of the ways things are starting to look up for me now i have 4 hours to complete my double page spread but i may just do it all at home and spend my media lessons relaxing.

Front cover almost complete!!!

Just writing to give you all an update about how my magazine front cover was coming along, ive basically completed it now all ive got to do is cut out the photo's that ive taken and add them to my front cover, i have also started work on my contents page which hopefully shouldn't take as long as my front cover.

Music Magazine update

Heres a quick update on how things are going with my music magazine so far, obviously i didn't start it very long ago so im still in the opening stages but ive started going onto photoshop and well just looking at the many different things it allows you to do in the hope of getting a better grasp of photoshop. I also created an extremely rough draft for my front cover it was pretty terrible, probably the worse piece of work i have ever produced in my life but im still learning so i'm sure you can all cut me some slack.

The start of something beautiful

In this lesson we were given the task of beginning to think about what our music magazine would be called and what genre it was going to be and stuff like that, I had decided that the genre of my magazine would be rock/metal music i chose this Genre because it is the genre of music that i listen to myself so i thought it would allow me to have a better understanding of what people want to see.
Coming up for a name for my magazine would be one of the toughest parts, i decided that the best way to go about it would be to brainstorm what words came into my head when i thought of the word rock, loads of different words came flying into my head from all angles the majority of the words i thought of involved guitars or drums, nothing really stood out and grabbed me. After a few minutes of complaining about how hard this decision actually was, suddenly the word distortion popped into my head it was just what i was looking for, and just like that the rock magazine Distortion was born and was ready to take its first steps in the world.

Deciding on the name of the magazine was a hollow victory as i soon realised i had to create a pitch to show Mrs Rogers that included information about what my target audience will be, what the magazine contained and so on. I then had to draw up some kind of plan of what my front cover would look like but as you could probably tell from previous posts im not exactly a creative person. I went for a crazy yellow and black design that in my head looks really cool but we will have to wait and see, i then decided that the main story for my double page spread would be an "interview with a teenage rock sensation " this is generic enough that it would be easy for me to adapt the story when i need to if i change my mind in the future.

The final task for me was to show Mrs my work and get her opinion of it, overall she seemed happy with my work aside from a view punctuation issues but everybodies human right, the next set of lessons are just gonna be me doing my own thing and trying to get stuff done so my next few posts may seem a tad erratic, my apologies.

Contents and Music magazines

contents page

At the beginning of lesson 8 Mrs explained to us that we had to create a contents page to go along with our School magazine front cover, luckily the quality of the contents page wasn't actually going to be marked because my contents page was extremely basic, the important thing is that when i have finished the music magazine that i am going to make, that i have made a clear improvement and judging by the quality of my school cover and contents it would be almost impossible for me to not make an improvement. So now i have completed both my contents page and school cover i am ready for the next fun fun lesson.

Kerrang and NME magazine's

At the beginning of the lesson mrs Rogers spent a short time talking to us about the diffrent types of music magazine that were currently in business and how they appeal to certain audiences, we were then given two music magazines to look at and talk about the first was NME magazine which seemed very clean cut and sensible where as the second magazine that was the Kerrang magazine seemd a little rough around the edges if you like. we were given a sheet of paper that would help us, we then set about looking at both magazines in turn. This wasn't exactly a task that filled me with much joy but then again not every lesson can be fun.

Preliminary Task

Preliminary Task

Lesson 7 was a photo taking excercise where the dream team of me, matt and emmanuel went out with the idea of capturing some photos for our preliminary task which was the creation of a front cover for a school magazine. some of the pictures we took inicluded; a picture of the new sixth form block, picture of the school hall and the new school chapel and some other various shots taken from around the school when we had finished we returned to class and waited with bated breathe for our next task.

During lesson 8 we had to get to work on the front cover itself mrs rogers had told us not to worry about the quality of it, because we ould only get marked down if we hadn't done it and if you think about it the worse it is the better because then we could show a massive improvement on our actualy final product, after we had finished the front cover we were told to start on the the content page but thats a story for another post.

Magazine Inspection!!!

During this lesson Mrs Rogers went through a power point presentation describing the different aspects of magazines including mastheads and coverlines etc. and then she gave us all out a magazine called "healthy" which funnily enough was all about health, we had to annotate every aspect of said magazine and talk about its target audience purpose and why it did certain things which if im honest was the most fun ive ever had.....

lesson 5 was almost exactly the same as lesson 4 but we were given two university magazines to annotate but heres the big twist this time we had to compare the two's purpose and target audience, and then we had to take pictures of them and post them on our blogs which i didnt quite get round to but who is honestly reading this anyway.

The horror that is Photoshop

in the second lesson we were given an in depth photoshop tutorial, although i still know absolutly nothing about photoshop but it will come to me in time i hope, alas in the third lesson we were given some cameras and told to take a picture of something related to nature, seeing as i am extremely clever i didnt bring my coat so just a tad cold as emmanuel and matt dragged me to the muddiest field in history to take countless pictures of muddy water. i being the sharp mind i am took the greatest picture of nature in history with my amazing light shining through some leaves its kinda hard to explain but it was great, then we returned to class and that was the end of that magical journey.

A new hope

This was my first lesson of media since my exam which whilst we are on the topic went good except for the horror that was question 2. Mrs rogers spent the lesson highlighting what we would be doing for the second half of the year, we are going to be making the front page,  contents and a doube page spread of a new music magazine well thats the plan anyway we will have to wait and see how succesful that is. We were told about how the marks would be broken down 20 marks would be awarded for the planning of our magazine, 60 would be awarded for the actual construction of our magazine and the final 20 marks would be given for the evaluation which includes us presenting our work using a power point or prezzo. Mrs then went through and explained the different skills and techniques that we should use during the project which i personally thought wasn't remotly boring. Mrs Rogers then let us loose on the laptops and told us to set up are blogs and write our first posts describing what we did in our first lesson which is exactly why im here writing right now. i know its sad but im gonna have to stop writing now, read my next entry to find what i did in my next extremely exciting and amazing media lesson......
